ASE organizes seven paper sessions, a plenary, and a breakfast at the Allied Social Science Association meetings each January in a city in the United States. The opening plenary session and reception is held on the evening before the first day of the ASSA conference. The annual Membership Meeting of ASE is held on a later afternoon of the conference. At the Presidential Breakfast, announcements are made of awards and grants, and the outgoing president gives an address.
Submissions of proposals for individual papers or entire sessions for the seven ASE-sponsored paper sessions are solicited early in every year (usually February) for the following January. Proposals are due by the end of April.
