PROGRAM DIRECTOR
(3-year term)
The Association for Social Economics (ASE) seeks a new Program Director. The Program Director is responsible for coordinating efforts to ensure smooth running of the ASE sessions at the ASSAs. This is a three-year term starting in Spring 2025. The Program Director is appointed by the Executive Council of the Association.
The Program Director:
- Coordinates with the ASSA for the annual meeting; works to plan the annual membership meeting, plenary session, breakfast, and sessions, ensuring that all are included in the general program.
- Works with the ASSA and the ASE President-Elect on the program for the annual meetings; proofs galleys for the ASSA program book, especially those pages relating directly to ASE sessions.
- Arranges for and sets menus and prices for the ASE Presidential breakfast and the plenary session (within the cap on conference spending set by the Executive Council) and makes certain that the breakfast is included in the ASSA pre-registration materials as a fee event.
- Prepares a report on the ASSA meetings, including statistics about attendance and expenses, in time for the Spring Executive Council meeting (typically held in May or June).
- Represents the ASE on the committee that determines the allocation of ASSA sessions (including at the in-person meeting that typically takes place at ASSA on the Sunday/final day of the conference).
- Serves on the Finance Committee.
- Is a voting member of the Executive Council.
The Program Director provides an important service role for ASE and gains both administrative experience and networking opportunities. In addition, the Program Director receives one of the complementary hotel rooms allocated to the ASE for attending the annual ASE meetings in association with the ASSA. They also receive additional reimbursement, not to exceed $750, annually towards the cost of necessary inter- and intra-city travel and conference registration, if full funding is not provided by their host institution.
